FAQ
Who is the target group?
Families who have a parent with AMD, hearing loss, and memory challenges. This combination of conditions is special and can make it challenging to manage daily schedules and communications effectively.
Why did we build this?
Because we had a family member with AMD (Macular degeneration), hearing loss, and memory challenges who needed a simple way to stay on top of daily schedules and messages. So we built it — and use the system ourselves.
Pricing
Free for personal use. Not a commercial service.
What is the Cast function (Live message)?
During a phone call the person with memory challenges may not hear everything. The caller can type live text, supporting the conversation in real-time.
What is the product?
A simple web app that shows the clock, reminders, and events from Google Calendar. For some users, live messages from relatives are the most important feature; for others, the calendar view is key.
Can I prioritize calendar events?
Yes, but prioritization is managed within Google Calendar. You can use Google's event colors to indicate priority: Red = very high, Yellow = high, Blue = normal, Green = low. Events are always displayed in chronological order. Recurring events are shown once, close to their next occurrence.
Please avoid assigning too many events as high priority, as this can reduce the system's effectiveness. And remember, Google may change event colors in the future.
Is hardware included?
No. You provide your own large screen and a small or used Windows PC. A Chromebook is also ok, and has better sound to speak.
Why Windows?
We use fonts optimized for large-screen readability. These fonts are not always available or consistent on other systems.
How do I set up the PC?
Set the browser (Chrome or Edge) to open the page at startup. Press F11 for full screen. Disable sleep. You can also use Kiosk Mode to start automatically after boot.
Why are fonts and colors unusual?
They are chosen for maximum readability at a distance after many tests. On a large display, function readability is more important than visual harmony.
What screen size is recommended?
For the best experience, choose at least 28–32 inches. If smaller screens work well, other products may fit better.
Do we need a Google account?
Yes. The account is used for login and, optionally, to show selected events from Google Calendar. There is a standalone edition available for those who prefer not to use a Google account, but it has limited functionality.
Why do messages appear so rarely?
Too many repeats feel like noise. Important messages can then be ignored. Fewer, well-timed messages work better. You can alter the frequency in the settings.
